TKF SL combines the powerful foam conditioning effect with natural built-in clay neutralising chemistry for increased transient plasticity at minimal moisture content. TKF SL: - TKF SL is a high expansion, inhibitor enhanced foam additive for EPB tunnelling in clay- rich face.
- By inhibiting clay swelling and stickiness, a less sticky, more compact product is mucked away without loss of production.
- Fractures created by the TBM in the clay mass are perpetuated and extended, preventing clay strength recovery and allowing easy low-torque mining.
- Promotes smooth easy extrusion of muck through the cutterhead and plenum
- Not classified as hazardous or irritant
- Non toxic
- Increases pneumatic shear effect (break-up) effect on puggy clay
- Reduces cutterhead torque
- Encouraging exact volumetric mucking to avoid surface disturbance

Normal treatment recommendation: from 3 to 5 kg per cubic metre of in situ spoil. Solution concentration at start-up should be 5% for heavy clays; it can usually be reduced in easier ground.
